DECLARATION OF STATE OF FIRE EMERGENCY UPDATE

DECLARATION OF STATE OF FIRE EMERGENCY UPDATE

Queensland Government updated/amended the Declaration of State of Fire Emergency for Queensland (attached) on Tuesday 12 November. These changes improve the capability for the sugar industry to use fire in standing cane, tops and trash during the declaration period.

• Fires can continue to be lit via the “Notification For Burning Of Sugar Cane” issued on 31 May 2019 (information was uploaded to KCGO web page on 11th November)
• If all conditions of the notification cannot be met, fires can also be lit under a permit issued by the Rural Fire Service Regional Manager, Tony Hazell.
• All permits issued prior to 9 November 2019 have been cancelled and can be reissued by the Fire Warden once the Declaration is revoked.

As stated in the Declaration the issuing of permits will be undertaken by the Rural Fire Service Regional Manager. To facilitate this, applications should be made using the application for a permit to light fire (attached) and submitted to [email protected]

For all enquiries regarding permit applications please call 07 4796 9076.

Additionally the revised Declaration in Section 9 provides advice on hot works, grinding and other activities. These activities can be undertaken providing there is 10 meters of separation from flammable vegetation.

If growers have any queries please do not hesitate to contact this office.
